The Rev. Dr. Winfred B. Vergara, program officer of Episcopal Asiamerica Ministries. Fr. Fred was ordained in the Philippine Independent Church and served in Manila, Dagupan and Pasay cities as priest and managing editor of The Christian Register and the Aglipayan Review.

 

He became a missionary with the Anglican Church in Singapore and in 1980-86 where he planted churches and organized the first ministry among the Filipina domestic workers. In 1986, he came to the U.S. where he served in the Diocese of El Camino Real (California) and founded the Holy Child churches in San Jose, Milpitas, Sacramento and Las Vegas.

 

In 2004 he was appointed by then Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold as Asian Missioner in the Episcopal Church Center based in New York City. Holding two doctorates, he is author of “Mainstreaming: Asian Americans in the Episcopal Church” and “Milkfish in Brackish Water: Filipino Ministry in American Context.”
